Professional monitoring for Nest Secure

On April 8, 2024, Nest will no longer support Nest Secure. It will not be accessible in the Nest app and will no longer connect to the internet. You will not be able to use the Nest app to check the status of your Nest Secure, control your Nest Secure devices, or receive notifications from your alarm system.

For more information, go to this Community Forum post.

For people who want an extra layer of security, professional monitoring can help respond to Google Nest Secure alarms. When you subscribe to professional monitoring, a trained agent will confirm that the alarm isn’t false by calling you or your emergency contacts. They can also contact the police to respond if needed.

How it works

Which products does professional monitoring work with?

Professional monitoring works with Nest Secure, including the Google Nest Guard keypad and motion sensor plus any Google Nest Detect activity sensors installed in your home.

Note: Professional monitoring does not include security partner monitoring or agent response for Google Nest Protect smoke or CO alarms.

What's included with a professional monitoring subscription?

When you subscribe to professional monitoring you get 24/7 response to Nest Secure alarms from one of our security partners. Cellular backup is also included with a professional monitoring subscription.

Note: Professional monitoring does not include security partner monitoring or agent response for Nest Protect smoke or CO alarms.

What happens when Nest Secure's alarm sounds?

If your Nest Secure alarm sounds and it isn’t quickly silenced, an agent from your professional monitoring service will call you. They’ll ask you to verify if the alarm is false or not. If you don’t pick up the call, the agent will try calling the emergency contacts that you have listed in the Nest app.

When anyone verifies the alarm as real, or if no one responds to the agent’s calls, the agent will notify the local police precinct and inform them about the alarm and your home’s location.

How is professional monitoring different from cellular backup?

  • Cellular backup adds a cellular data connection to Guard so you can continue to get alerts on your phone and manage settings during a power, Wi-Fi or internet outage.
  • Professional monitoring lets our security partner respond to Nest Secure alarms.
  • When you subscribe to pro monitoring, cellular backup is included.
  • Cellular backup doesn’t contact a professional monitoring service.

Subscription details

How do I sign up?

New subscriptions are not being accepted. Subscriptions are being maintained for current subscribers in the U.S.

How can I check that professional monitoring is working?

Call your professional monitoring service to confirm that they're receiving updates from your Nest secure alarm system. Information about your professional monitoring service appears in the Security section of the Nest app.

What if I already have a cellular backup subscription?

When you subscribe to Nest professional monitoring service, a cellular backup subscription is included. So if you already have cellular backup and then decide to subscribe to professional monitoring, you should cancel your standalone cellular backup subscription. If you don’t do this beforehand, we’ll ask you to cancel as part of signing up for professional monitoring.

Important: If your subscription lapses or you cancel, cellular backup will only be available with professional monitoring through one of our partners.

How do I suspend or cancel my pro monitoring subscription?

If you want to unsubscribe or suspend service, please contact your professional monitoring service. This information appears in the Security section of the Nest app.

Managing your alarm system

If I add a new Nest Detect to my system, how do I also add it to the professional monitoring service?

You don’t need to take any additional steps. When you add a new Nest Detect to your account in the Nest app, it will be automatically added to the pro monitoring service.

What happens if I remove or move a Detect to a different spot in my home?

Follow the steps to move Detect to a new location. Your Detect’s new location will be automatically updated with your professional monitoring service.

If you remove a Nest Detect from your account, it will also be automatically updated with your service.

What should I do if I move Nest Secure to a new home?

If you move, or if you transfer your Nest Secure alarm system to another home, you can simply contact your professional monitoring service to let them know about the new address. As long as you keep your Nest Detects and Nest Guard in your account in the Nest app, they will continue to work with your pro monitoring service. If you give any Detects a different location name, they will be automatically updated with your professional monitoring service.

What should I do if I move my Nest Secure to a different account in the Nest app?

Contact your professional monitoring service to transfer your subscription to the new account in the Nest app.

If you give your Nest Secure alarm system to someone else, remove Guard and any Detects you have from your account in the Nest app. Then cancel your professional monitoring subscription and have the new owner start their own subscription.
