Frequently asked questions

Do I need to buy anything else to make it work?

The Nest × Yale Lock doesn’t connect directly to Wi-Fi. Instead it uses Weave to connect to a Nest Connect or Nest Guard in your home. Your Connect or Guard, which are connected to your Wi-Fi network, let your lock communicate with the Nest service in the cloud and the Nest app on your phone.

If you purchase the Nest × Yale Lock from one of our retail partners, Nest Connect is included in the box when you purchase the lock. You won’t need to purchase anything else to make your lock work.

If you purchase the Nest × Yale Lock from store.nest.com, you have the option to buy it with or without a Nest Connect. That way, if you already have a Nest Secure alarm system, you can purchase the lock without Nest Connect and you’ll still have everything you need to make it work.

If you’re installing multiple locks, you may only need one Nest Connect to work with your locks. If your doors are far apart, you might need more than one Nest Connect.

For best results, you should try to install your Nest Connect about halfway between your router and your lock.

Will it work on my door?

Voice control features will not be available right away after the Nest × Yale Lock is released, but we’re working to incorporate voice technology and will continue to explore how voice control can safely enhance security in homes.
